Why Methylation is Important?

What is all this talk about Methylation? Do you understand it? Do you care?
Would you like to learn?

If you are a true clinician and want to help your patients thrive and become and stay healthy, then I think you should continue reading.

The picture below is the simple headache free picture compared to other diagrams I could have chosen. It is the 8 major steps of the Kreb cycle.

I will keep it simple as I can so you can get how important it is to know. We must start off by learning the Kreb Cycle which is the first step of many cycles of methylation.

Prepping for the Kreb Cycle

The Kreb cycle is so important it has not 1, not 2, but, 3 different names. It is also known as the Citric Acid Cycle (yes, the same citric acid as found in lemons and other citric fruits), and also named the Tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle (because it has 3 carboxyl groups).

From here forward I will refer to it as the Kreb Cycle, as that is how I learned it WAY back in high school.

I also believe in giving credit to its discoverer, Hans Adolf Kreb, a German born British biologist who won a Nobel Prize for his work on the Kreb cycle. Han’s realized that we get energy from the foods that we eat.

Our bodies digest the foods we eat by mixing it with fluids (enzymes and acids) in the stomach. When the stomach digests foods, carbohydrates (starches and sugars) in the foods break down into another type of sugar called glucose, a 6-carbon molecule.

The glucose gets split in half (called glycolysis) and we end up with 2 pyruvate acids (molecules).
The important thing to remember is that it was cut in half in an action called glycolysis.

This is the first step of cellular respiration taking place in the cytosol of the cell’s cytoplasm.

Pyruvate releases a high energy that we utilize in the formation of ATP and NADH molecules.
The step above is called pyruvate oxidation.

This is where pyruvate converts to acetyl-coenzyme A (Acetyl-CoA). Acetyl Co-A merges with oxaloacetate and now we are in the Kreb cycle.

Common Kreb Cycle Patient Symptoms:

  • Anemia
  • Metabolic Syndrome
  • Insulin Resistance
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Vitamin B-12 Deficiency
  • Common Cold

So here in the Kreb cycle which is in the matrix of the mitochondria is where the second step of cellular respiration happens.
There are 8 major steps that happen here but I will not go through all the steps for you because I may lose your attention, and frankly you don’t need to know each and every step.

Refer to the diagram below for the steps.

You do need to know that they happen in a sequence (very important to understand that). It is important because when we are treating our patients we must make sure the pathways are open starting from the beginning of the Kreb Cycle.

We must make sure that the Kreb cycle is working before we clear any other pathways. I use Kinesiology to check my patients but you can also use 23andme or the Ancestry DNA saliva tests.
These are uploaded into the www.FHEval.com website.

Look at the diagram (bottom of the page) and notice the final product is oxaloacetic acid.

That same product is needed to start the cycle over again when it merges with Acetyl-CoA.

This is why it is called the Kreb or Citric “Cycle” because it is a cycle. In summing up the Kreb cycle, it produces carbon dioxide, which we expel, NADH, FADH2, and ATP or GTP.

ATP for example provides energy for muscle contractions and therefore be referred to as power house of the cells.
These are very important enzymes (well, all enzymes are important) that have a purpose and when one or more are deficient it will create havoc in our bodies.

It will not allow the sequence of other cycles to continue.

Stop Meth’ing Around…

Ok, so what does the Kreb cycle have do with healing our patients?

Well, as you read above, the food that we eat turns into chemical energy and if that chemical energy is deficient and not doing its “cycle” of action as it is supposed to, then our patients will come in feeling sick, tired, or worse, won’t be healing correctly and they will have relapse after relapse after relapse.
I am sure you have seen the same cases?

You have tried everything you know and still they still don’t heal.

Well a clinical pearl is maybe they have a methylation problem.

Somewhere in their body a cycle is blocking, stopping, or turning on or off DNA genes that are being expressed as a symptom, illness, disease, etc.

This deficient cycle could be causing an enzymatic malfunction that could be due to a lack of nutrient cofactors needed for optimal enzymatic function.
We need to find what enzyme or nutrient the patient is deficient in or in excess in and treat them.

Nutri West is my “GoTo” for methylation nutrients because they are made specially for methylation.

A perfect example is Co Q 10 paired with Total L Carnitine to help the first stage of the Kreb cycle. But not all patients need this.
That is why testing them is important. Or looking at their DNA saliva test.

Together we can make a difference in the lives of our patients!
A patient is not doomed because they have a disorder that western medicine has no cure for. Learn methylation and you too will see how we can really help our patients.

NutriWest Supplements for Krebb Cycle

(by Dr. J. Dunn & Dr. Martha Hall)
Note: CO-Q-10 Plus and Total L-Carnitine MUST be used together to support the bio-chemical reactions

CO-Q-10 Plus:

A potent antioxidant, co-enzyme Q-10 is one of the electron carriers in the energy producing mitochondria. Its many effects include support of cardiac function. Each tablet contains: Vitamin E (as succinate) 6 mg. Proprietary blend 61 mg* of: Co-Enzyme Q-10, Olive Oil, Quercetin, Alpha Lipoic Acid.

Total L-Carnitine:

Total L-Carnitine brings fatty acids across the mitochondrial membrane to be burned for energy. It has the sub-name of being referred to as the “energy nutrient” to help maintain weight homeostasis.

Glycan Renew:

Immune System, Multiple Organ Systems, Healthy Cell Proliferation and General Well-Being and Homeostasis (they are adaptogenic). Proprietary blend 725 mg* of: Coriolus Versicolor, Reishi Mushroom, Maitake Mushroom, Shiitake Mushroom, Cordyceps Sinensis, Lions Mane Mushroom, 1,3 Beta Glucans, Lentinan. Shiitake is purported to have potent properties due to the presence of many bioactive compounds such as ergothioneine, and it has demonstrated an antioxidant activity “through the regulation of nitric oxide concentration and thiol redox status.

Complete Energy:

Support for energy production, mitochondrial health, healthy aging/cognition, nerve, brain & heart health, muscular strength/coordination, antioxidant function, nociceptive pathways. Vitamin E (as succinate) 5 mg. Proprietary blend 125 mg* of: Coenzyme Q-10, Lecithin (as sunflower), Pyrroloquinoline Quinone, Quercetin, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Lycopene, Rhodiola Rosea (root), Cordyceps, Broccoli Powder (tops), Parsley (leaf).
